Juvederm® Ultra XC & Ultra-Plus XC

Juvederm® Ultra XC and Ultra-Plus XC are injectable gels used to add volume and smooth out wrinkles by replenishing the natural Hyaluronic Acid (HA) that has been lost. Juvederm® Ultra XC is also used as a lip filler to re-shape or add volume to the lips.

Your skin changes over time

Over time, your skin can lose elasticity and moisture. The normal process, plus environmental factors like sun exposure, can cause different facial lines to form, including moderate to severe wrinkles and folds.

There are several different types of facial lines that form around your nose and mouth. These include the parentheses lines, vertical lip lines, corner lines, and marionette lines. Over time, these lines may become more noticeable.

How they work

  • Non-surgical treatments
  • Contains a modified Hyaluronic Acid, derived from a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body
  • Is injected by your healthcare professional under the skin using a fine needle
  • Contains a common anesthetic called lidocaine to reduce discomfort

What's the difference between Juvederm® Ultra XC and Juvederm® Ultra-Plus XC?

Juvederm® Ultra XC is used to treat slight to moderate wrinkles, correct the look of scars, and act as a lip filler to re-shape and/or add volume to the lips. It has a thinner consistency, is primarily injected into higher areas of the dermis, has a 6% cross-link formula, and lasts about 9 months to 1 year.

Juvederm® Ultra-Plus XC is used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles, nasolabial folds, facial shaping, and areas with greater volume loss. It has a thicker consistency, is injected deeper into the dermis, has an 8% cross-link formula, and lasts around 1 year.

What are the possible side effects?

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection-site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin-injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
